Our Pastors

Rhett Avenue Christian Church is blessed to have Dan and Melanie Barton are our co-pastors.  A husband and wife team, both are trained, licensed therapists. We share them as pastors with another Disciples of Christ congregation in the Greater Charleston area.  For the past four years they have helped guide and direct us as we find our way as a congregation toward service to those in our congregation and beyond according to God's Word. 

Dan and Melanie have lived in South Carolina for over 26 years.  Prior to that time they pastored two churches in Indiana.  Since coming to South Carolina, they have pastored six churches in our state.

Both Dan and Melanie believe in the process of change that takes time to unfold.  They each have their strengths: Dan working with hospital patients and families on death and dying situations, Melanie creating innovative programs and projects to incorporate intergenerational activities and meet the needs of the people.  Both enjoy leading workshops on various topics.

We are a church that wants to serve the community not have the members be served.  We believe in a strong ecumenical involvement.  Dan and Melanie are strong advocates of the need of continually working on relationships whether in the marriage, family, church or workplace.  They are very involved in the recovery community and open to new ways to do things, and both are good listeners.
